2024 BUILD Wisconsin Awards Update
In effort to enhance the BUILD Wisconsin Awards program and the recognition banquet, the 2024 BUILD Wisconsin Awards will be celebrated at the 98th Annual Membership Meeting on January 25, 2025 in Madison.
The 2024 Call for Entries will begin in August with a deadline of mid-October. Projects completed in the 2023 calendar year and through June 2024 will be eligible.

2023 BUILD Wisconsin Awards
2023 Call for Entries
AGC of Wisconsin members are invited to participate in the prestigious 2023 BUILD Wisconsin Awards competition to celebrate their firm and projects demonstrating construction excellence. Winning projects represent the best the construction industry has to offer by both general contractors and specialty contractors. In order to do so, award submittals must demonstrate their ability to meet the following criteria:
AGC of Wisconsin members are invited to participate in the prestigious 2023 BUILD Wisconsin Awards competition to celebrate their firm and projects demonstrating construction excellence. Winning projects represent the best the construction industry has to offer by both general contractors and specialty contractors. In order to do so, award submittals must demonstrate their ability to meet the following criteria:
- Exceptional project safety performance
- Overcoming the challenges of a difficult project
- Unique craftsmanship required for the project
- Dedication to client service and community impact
JUDGES
The AGC of Wisconsin has partnered with the AGC of Colorado Building Chapter for the judging of the 2023 BUILD Wisconsin Awards. The AGC of Colorado will name a panel of qualified individuals to judge the submitted projects.
All winners will be announced by August 11, 2023 and presented their award at the BUILD Wisconsin Awards Ceremony on October 5, 2023 at Milwaukee Tool headquarters in Brookfield.

- Nominations must be submitted with the permission of the firm’s principals or officers.
- Submissions for projects completed in 2022 calendar year.
- Remember to indicate the appropriate category for each submission on the entry form.

AWARD CATEGORIES
General Contractors
Award categories, based on project contract amount, for General Contractor projects include:
Commercial Projects - Commercial Projects includes federal, state, and local governments; private and public organizations; non-manufacturing business establishments, single/multi-family, apartments, condominiums, churches, hotels, restaurants, wholesale businesses, retail stores, warehouses, storage facilities, and health, social and educational institutions. Commercial projects include all project delivery methods.
Industrial Projects – Industrial Projects includes food processing, manufacturing, high tech, pharma, metal processing, pulp and paper, power, pipeline, water and wastewater systems, and includes fixed pieces of equipment, buildings or complexes used to produce goods in connection with, or as part of, any process or system. Industrial projects include all project delivery methods.
Specialty Contractors
Awards for Specialty Contractor projects will be considered for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, exterior finishes, and interior finishes in the following project contract amount categories:
Specialty Contractors are encouraged to submit multiple entries with varying contract amounts but each company is limited to one award per category:
ADDITIONAL AWARD RECOGNITION CATEGORIES:
Limit responses to 1,000 words per Additional Award entry. Project entries from General and Specialty Contractor categories can be submitted for a below Additional Award.
Excellence in Partnering Award
The Excellence in Partnering Award will be awarded to the project team that successfully utilized a partnering process, which could include a partnership with an architect/engineer, subcontractor, consultant, or OSHA to name a few. The award winner will stand out for their ability to:
Environmental Excellence Award
The Environmental Excellence Award will be awarded to the AGC member that went above-and beyond normal practices to have a positive impact on the environment. The entry should address the extent to which your company exceeded regulatory requirements and the benefits to your company and the environment. Such practices could include:
Wisconsin Horizon Award
The Wisconsin Horizon Award is presented to an outstanding individual who has positively impacted the horizon for Wisconsin’s construction industry. The candidate does not need to be an AGC member and could be an architect, engineer, public servant, or private citizen. Any employee of an AGC member firm in good standing may submit an entry. An entry for a winning candidate could include an explanation how the individual:
Technology & Innovative Practices Award
The Technology & Innovative Practices Award will be bestowed upon the project team that best utilized innovative technologies, practices, and methodologies throughout the construction process, the positive impact they made, and how they helped elevate industry standards. These may include, but are not limited to:
Historical Preservation Award
The Historical Preservation Award recognizes a project team that took an active role in preserving and protecting the integrity of a historic structure. Entries should include information regarding:
General Contractors
Award categories, based on project contract amount, for General Contractor projects include:

Awards for Specialty Contractor projects will be considered for electrical, mechanical, plumbing, exterior finishes, and interior finishes in the following project contract amount categories:
- Less than $500,000
- $500,000 to $1,000,000
- $1,000,000 to $3,000,000
- Greater than $3,000,000
Specialty Contractors are encouraged to submit multiple entries with varying contract amounts but each company is limited to one award per category:
- Electrical
- Mechanical
- Plumbing
- Finishes (Exterior or Interior)
ADDITIONAL AWARD RECOGNITION CATEGORIES:

Excellence in Partnering Award
The Excellence in Partnering Award will be awarded to the project team that successfully utilized a partnering process, which could include a partnership with an architect/engineer, subcontractor, consultant, or OSHA to name a few. The award winner will stand out for their ability to:
- Adhere to the principles of partnering and achieve a common goal
- Build a team that honors all stakeholders and incorporates team-building activities
- Improve communication and conflict-resolution strategies
- Positively impact the delivery of the project
Environmental Excellence Award
The Environmental Excellence Award will be awarded to the AGC member that went above-and beyond normal practices to have a positive impact on the environment. The entry should address the extent to which your company exceeded regulatory requirements and the benefits to your company and the environment. Such practices could include:
- Water quality and conservation
- Reduced habitat disturbance, site preservation and habitat restoration
- Materials salvaged and/or recycled from project
- Recycled-content building materials used in project
- Strategies for construction waste management, including pollution prevention and clean-up
- Air quality
Wisconsin Horizon Award
The Wisconsin Horizon Award is presented to an outstanding individual who has positively impacted the horizon for Wisconsin’s construction industry. The candidate does not need to be an AGC member and could be an architect, engineer, public servant, or private citizen. Any employee of an AGC member firm in good standing may submit an entry. An entry for a winning candidate could include an explanation how the individual:
- Promotes the construction industry
- Builds construction industry relationships
- Promotes future positive contributions to the industry
- Enhances the image of the industry
Technology & Innovative Practices Award
The Technology & Innovative Practices Award will be bestowed upon the project team that best utilized innovative technologies, practices, and methodologies throughout the construction process, the positive impact they made, and how they helped elevate industry standards. These may include, but are not limited to:
- Software/Hardware
- Construction Applications
- Equipment/Materials
- Processes
- Programs

- Known history of the building
- Building condition prior to project commencement
- Noteworthy conditions/constraints that affected the project
